PACIFIC CUP SEASON ROLLS TO START IN IRVINE
Wheels Start to Roll in So Cal

11/4/2006 – 6:34 PM PST

IRVINE, California – Pacific Cup hockey is back and as we near the close of the day at the events first regional it’s evident as well it’s better than ever.

I must say right off the top it’s great to see John Black, he’s got to be one of my favorite people in this sport, we had a great time together in Toronto and picked right back up here in Irvine at the California Roller Hockey Center.

The Pee Wee A division featured eight teams and also concluded tonight crowning Champions in both brackets.

It was cool to see teams trying to find their spot for the season. Since it is still early on a lot of teams are gauging whether or not they will be A or AA caliber, most are leaning toward AA.

In Pee Wee A 1 the San Diego Selects ended up taking the championship as they went on to defeat the Western Capitals White. The Western Capitals also feature the return of one of roller hockey’s legendary coaches and players Shayne Arsenault. Look for Shayne and his 6 Capitals teams all year long at Pacific Cup. The Selects walked away with the top individual honors as well with Don Keffer finishing as the high scorer (5G, 4A, 9PTS) and his goalie Jon Chang as the top puck stopper (.769 SV%). The Selects looked good all around allowing very few shots in on Chang.

The rest of the division broke down like this, third place was the Revision Devil Dogs led by Nabeel Gerges of Revision Hockey, and the fourth place finishers were the San Diego Samurai.

In Pee Wee A 2 it was the Irvine Force knocking off the San Diego Select 93’s for the Championship. Finishing in third place was the Western Capitals Squirt Black team and in fourth was the El Segundo Knights. Taking the individual top honors in the division were members of the Irvine Force. The top scorer award ended in a tie between Rob Solvy and Jon Liekhus who each had 4 goals and 2 assists for 6 points. The top goaltender was Bob Chacon who registered a save percentage of .892.

Some interesting observations of note I feel compelled to mention is that Nabeel and John Black seemed quite chummy throughout the day. Look for something potentially there in the works between Pacific Cup and Revision. With Revision coming on strong in the market place now, they are engaging themselves with the top tournaments! Exciting news, hopefully those two will get together.

And my close friend and super talented hockey player and photographer Tommy Neer is going to be a regular face at PCH this year. He is on hand taking photos and videos, so say hi to Tommy and get on the web site, tell him Gismo sent you!

More to come tomorrow as you can also look for blogs by me all season long right here on pacificcup.com. Coming up next month also is the exciting debut of PCH Pro which will kick off December 2 and 3 at Planet Hockey. See you around the rink and make sure you check back tomorrow for more of the latest!
